9-11-01 Anniversary Remembrance at MetroSouth (9/8)

Join us as we remember the 10-year anniversary of September 11, 2001.

A United States Flag, which was flown over the United States Capitol on September 11 to commemorate the anniversary, will be presented to Dr. Enrique Beckmann, CEO of MetroSouth Medical Center.

Historical Architecture Walking Tour

Starting at the 132-year-old Blue Island Historical Society Albee House, this walking tour will take you through some of Blue Island’s architectural history. The tour will be about one mile. Tickets required. See info below.

A reception honoring Jack Simmerling coincides with this event. From 1:30-2:30pm, all are invited to stop in at the Blue Island Public Library to meet & honor Mr. Simmerling, view some of his works, & enjoy light refreshments.

Drivin’ the Dixie

The Dixie Highway is an Historic Route in the United States. And every year in Illinois about 200 enthusiasts hop in their classic cars to “Cruise” the Dixie from Blue Island to Momence.

The public is invited to kick off the Drivin’ the Dixie at the parking lot across from the Library to browse the classic cars and enjoy donuts and coffee.

TO DRIVE THE DIXIE:
For details about participating in the drive, including fees, visit www.drivingthedixie.com.  Participants will receive a passport for points of interests within the Dixie Highway communities, and can then explore the destinations at their leisure. Each town hosts something different (like yard sales or special lunch options).

BIHS Annual Membership Meeting & Women’s Club Plaque Dedication

The annual state of address report will be given by Blue Island Historical Society Chairman, Michael Kaliski.  This event will also include the plaque dedication to the Blue Island Women’s Club Members–the plaque is the most recent addition to the Albee House. And finally, the event will conclude with a semi-formal tea. All BIHS members are encouraged to attend! Please contact BIHS to reserve your seat.
