Bring the kids to the Library for a Fourth of July Celebration on Saturday, July 3 from 10am-1pm.

A decorated bike & wagon parade will kick-off at 11:30am.

Join in the fun with the Library, Police & Fire Department, Special Events, Park District, Bike Club, Boy Scouts and Anna Stange!

And at 2:00pm, the film Liberty’s Kids – Give Me Liberty will be shown in the Meeting Room.  The Blue Island Public Library is located at 2433 York Street – call (708) 388-1078 for more info.

The Western Avenue Parade and Fireworks will not be held on the Fourth this year in Blue Island. Please enjoy your holiday safely and attend a local fireworks display hosted by a professional pyrotechnical specialist. The Blue Island Police Department would like to take this time to ask residents to be observant this summer of the dangers of illegal fireworks.

Get Your Motor Runnin’

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Expect over 100 antique cars of all types to gather this Saturday, June 19, across from the Blue Island Public Library for the annual Driving the Dixie car show and tour. Celebrating historic Dixie Highway – known locally as Western Avenue, but once part of a National highway that stretched from Chicago to Miami Beach – the “Dixie Dash” takes motorists from Blue Island to Momence, with each community spotlighting historic sites and hosting special events.  The Blue Island Historical Society is sponsoring the morning kick-off, so head over to the library and check out some amazing vehicles!

After you wave goodbye to the last motorists, head into the neighborhood for the 4th annual Yard Sale on the Hill.  Look for signs with balloons in front of participating homes.  Maps of all participating homes are available at each location, and the sale easily walkable, stretching from 127th to Vermont and from Western to Highland.  The Blue Island Historical Society will be selling wares at their home, located at 13018 Maple Ave, so be sure to visit!
