Plans are underway for a fun-filled, family friends day to kick off the Holiday Season. This year’s Light Parade will be on Saturday, December 5th at 5:30 pm. It will begin at Western Ave. and Union, go south to the Gregory Street turnaround and head back north on Gregory back to Union St. This will more than double the length of the parade and give more people an opportunity to view the parade.
The Blue Island Public Library will show Christmas movies from 1 pm to 4 pm and be serving refreshments. There will be a Kringle Market in MetroSouth Park and free train rides for the kids from 3 pm to 7 pm at MetroSouth Park.
Join Mayor Vargas at MetroSouth Park following the Parade to light the Christmas Trees in the park. Then bring the kids over to the Santa House in the Park to get their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Then shop until you drop at the annual Business Open Houses up and down Western Ave.
Starting on Small Business Saturday, November 28th, stop in your favorite business and see if you can find Blue, our Elf on the Shelf, peeking out from behind something on the shelves. If you spot him, have one of the clerks initial next to their business name on the form available at the store. Visit all of the stores on the list, collect initials and turn in your completed form by 8:30 pm at Flowers by Cathe to be entered into a drawing to win prizes or $30 in Blue Island Bucks, good at any of the participating stores.
Kick off the holiday season with Christmas in Blue Island! And may it be bright!
