These Old Men They Play Records will be back at the Rock Island Public House tonight, Friday, July 24th. Come on out, have some great craft beer and enjoy some great music. They’ll be celebrating Ballast Point’s Sculpin’s birthday!

Saturday, July 25th 

Kickapoo Volunteer Day

Volunteers will continue to cage sensitive native plants to protect them from hungry deer, gather seeds and clip the seed heads of invasive thistles. Chris will be there by 9 am if you want to come and leave early to beat the heat.

 Canoeing on the Calumet

The Friends of the Chicago River are having a canoeing event on Saturday, July 25th. The program will be lead by canoe guides that will focus on the local wildlife along the river and the restoration efforts that have occurred. The day will start at the Little Calumet Boat Launch site in Blue Island and there is no experience necessary. Guests are only required to bring a bag lunch and purchase a ticket online prior to the event. Everyone who purchases 2 tickets ($45 each) will receive 1 additional ticket for free! Come on out for this great event!

 Taste of Olde Western

Blue Cap Family and Friends are having a Taste of Olde Western Ave. on Saturday, July 25th. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased the night of the event. It includes food at all four stops. It starts at the Maple Tree Inn, 13301 Olde Western Ave at 4 pm. From there, they will go to Blue Island Beer Company, 13347 Olde Western at 5 pm, The Hideaway, 13404 Olde Western at 6 pm and to their final stop at the Rock Island Public House, 13328 Olde Western Ave at 7 pm. Cash bar is available at all four locations. Proceeds from this event will go directly to fund activities such as field trips, parties, dances and more for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities supported at Blue Cap. Splash for Cash

The Blue Island Park District invites you to dive into some fun this summer. Race against time and other opponents to collect as many sunken tokens as you can. Tokens can be redeemed for awesome prizes including food, snacks and cash! The $5 fee includes entry to the pool’s evening swim session. The Pool is open for afternoon swim from 12 noon to 5 pm and evening swim from 6 pm to 8:30 pm all week long through August 12th, weather permitting. From August 12th through September 7th, the Pool is only open on the weekends.

 Movies in the Park

Calumet Township will be sponsoring their Summer Movies in the Park again this summer. Bring a lawn chair, blanket or use one of their picnic tables and come on out and enjoy the great weather and take in a movie on their HUGE outdoor movie screen! This is an event perfect for the whole family. They will be selling food and drinks. July’s movie is Annie.

Sunday, July 26th 

Yoga and Beer

This Sunday is Yoga and Beer at the Rock Island Public House! There’s a one hour yoga session followed by a pint of a great craft beer! Beginners are encouraged to come. Bring your own mat. The cost is $15 and includes your first beer following yoga. It starts at 2 pm.
