Blue Island Awarded Illinois Coastal Grant

Gov-Quinn-with-Mayor-Vargas-and-BarreraBlue Island was awarded an Illinois Coastal Grant from the Department of Natural Resources to hold five, day long workshops to raise awareness in the Calumet region about our water trails, how water trails uniquely connect people to the ecological values of the Calumet and to inspire stewardship activity. Two of these five workshops will be held on the Little Calumet River in Blue Island. Not only will this program introduce attendees to paddling and rowing, but it will also educate them on water quality and stewardship.

Thank you and congrats to our partnering organizations: Openlands, Field Museum, Forest Preserve District of Cook County and Illinois Water TrailKeepers.
