The Blue Island Historical Society is excited to present the 27th House Walk Tour. The tour originates at  the Albee House (13018 Maple Ave), where participants  will be provided with tour booklets  to 
five historic Blue Island homes.

Light Up the River Cancelled

Unfortunately, the Saturday, August 22, 2010 City of Blue Island Light Up the River Boat Parade and Fireworks event has been cancelled due to lack of boater participation.   The City is looking into funding opportunities to help encourage participation for this event in 2011.  We apologize for any inconvenience.  If you have any questions, contact Mary Poulsen, Marketing Director at mpoulsen@cityofblueisland.org.

Illinois First Congressional District Business Week 2010

Congressman Bobby L. Rush presents the District Business Week on August 23 – 27, 2010. Hosted by South Central Community Services, 8316 S. Ellis Ave, Chicago, this week-long series will help entrepreneurs gain knowledge about Federal stimulus efforts, boost business skills through training seminars, help with business certification (particularly MBE/WBE certification), and offer procurement and technical assistance as well as access to capital workshops. Representatives from both the public and private sector will be on had at the procurement and employment opportunity fair.

District 218 Sponsors Back to School Health Fair

Numerous medical facilities and government agencies will join District 218 on Friday, August 13 in hosting a Back to School Health Fair at Richards High School in Oak Lawn.

The event, which will run from 2 to 6 p.m., will feature:

  • – School physicals for $40 (Parents must bring their student’s medical records, any insurance cards and accompany their children in order to get physicals or immunizations)
  • – Immunizations for $10
  • – Comprehensive eye exams for $40
  • – Free dental exams; and, many other free health screens and consultations
  • – Free food, drinks, school supplies, children’s games, entertainment

Richards is located at 10601 S. Central Avenue. Admission is free to the fair, which is designed for families of elementary, middle and high school students.

Free transportation to and from the fair will also be provided, with buses leaving from the Calumet Park Village Hall, St. Donatus Church, Paul Revere Primary School, Kerr Middle School, Eisenhower H.S., and Lincoln School.

Notice of 30-day Public Comment Period: Marshfield Ave PCB Cleanup

The City of Blue Island announces that the draft Analyses of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) for 12200 South Marshfield Avenue will be available for public review and comment for 30 days starting August 12, 2010.  The ABCA relates to the planned remediation activities at  the Northeast Mixed-Use Commercial Park Site.  

The public comment period is from August 12 to September 11, 2010. All interested individuals are encouraged to review the document and make comments.

The City and SSMMA will hold a public information meeting in conjunction with the comment period on Thursday, August 26, 2010 from 6:00 - 7:00 PM at the Blue Island Public Library 2433 York Street, Blue Island, IL 60406.
